The Group was constituted in 1991 and is made up of various community representatives. Meetings are held on a monthly basis currently at the Police headquarters in Berri.
RDVAG Aims
Encourage cooperation and coordination between agencies/departments/individuals in their response to domestic violence
Education of the community about domestic violence through schools and community awareness programs
Foster information sharing between individuals/agencies involved in response to domestic violence
Identify the resources existing in and available to the area
Facilitate the development of relevant skills in individuals involved in response to domestic violence
Lobby for legislation and social policy changes for the protection of victims of domestic violence
Seek funding for relevant projects
Publish and distribute regular minutes and local phone numbers
Collate and disseminate literature on domestic violence and carry out research on the subject when deemed necessary
Identify gaps in services for victims and perpetrators of domestic violence
The DVAG have been involved in various projects including
Posters for doctors surgeries
an information booklet for General Practitioners
establishing a committee to design and seek funding for a more integrated community approach to domestic violence
an information booklet for service providers
the Changing Gears education program for Year 9 students
